OpenAI’s new GPT-5 model disappoints users: disappointing comments on Reddit and social media!
OpenAI introduced its new and long-awaited model ‘GPT-5’. The company’s CEO Sam Altman called it the world’s best coding and writing model. This model is available for free use and is called a ‘reasoning’ model, meaning it has logical thinking. But interestingly, after the model’s release many experienced users expressed disappointment.
On Reddit, in one of the most upvoted posts, a user called it ‘horrible’ saying its answers are very brief, lifeless, and less personal in style, while Plus users also run out of prompt limits within an hour.
OpenAI announced that all old models will be shut down, which made many users angry who relied on older versions for work.
Some users say that GPT-5 is not a big step forward compared to previous models but has regressed in some aspects. Many feel the company limited the model to reduce operating costs, because running larger models is very expensive in terms of electricity and resources and harmful to the environment.
Some users jokingly said this model is ‘OpenAI’s version of shrinkflation,’ meaning selling a new version with reduced quality. It seems the company, trying to reach a valuation of $500 billion, is cutting corners somewhere.
Programmers complained that there is no significant improvement in coding tests. However, a research institute METR said GPT-5 is not powerful enough to cause dangerously fast progress in research, which is somewhat a reassuring thing.
Currently, one of the highest voted posts on Reddit about GPT-5 says, ‘GPT-5 is extremely poor.’
However, Sam Altman says this is the company’s smartest model and its main focus is to benefit as many people as possible and keep it affordable. He promises even smarter models will be introduced in the future.
