The monsoon spell, intensified by a low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh, India, and a westerly wave over the upper parts of the country, has brought significant weather activity to the following cities:

Cities Experiencing Rainfall on July 30, 2025

• Islamabad and Rawalpindi: Heavy rainfall has led to the enforcement of a rain emergency in the twin cities, with over 80 millimetres of rain recorded. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has reported up to 90 mm in some areas, causing urban flooding concerns.

• Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Kasur, Okara: These areas in central Punjab are witnessing rain-wind-thundershowers with scattered heavy falls.

• Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is experiencing rain-wind-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls.

• Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram: Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also under the influence of heavy rainfall.

• Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Chiniot: These areas are seeing scattered heavy falls alongside rain-wind-thundershowers.

• Tharparker, Umer Kot, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana: Sindh is experiencing rain-wind-thundershowers with occasional gaps.

• Northeast Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan: Rain-wind-thundershowers are expected in these regions.

• Kashmir: The PMD has forecasted rain-wind-thundershowers in the region.

Weather Outlook and Alerts

The PMD has warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore, due to the intensity of the rainfall. Authorities have advised residents to take precautionary measures, including avoiding direct sunlight exposure during daytime due to concurrent heatwave conditions in some areas. Farmers are urged to manage crop activities, and the public is advised to stay hydrated and use water judiciously.

The monsoon activity is expected to continue through July 31, with heavy rainfall potentially extending into August 1–2 in some regions. The PMD emphasizes that its observational network, aligned with World Meteorological Organization standards, ensures accurate reporting, dismissing earlier false claims of cloudbursts in areas like Chakwal.
