DG ISPR’s stern message and once again clouds of war in South Asia

The spokesperson of the Pakistan Army, Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif, has given an extraordinary interview to the British magazine “The Economist,” which is being seen not merely as a media statement but as a strategic message. In the interview, General Ahmad Sharif said in a blunt manner that Pakistan will give a befitting response to any aggression. The DG ISPR stated with extraordinary clarity:
“If India attempts aggression again, Pakistan will not only respond immediately but will deliver a devastating and deep-striking response. There will be no hesitation in using our ‘frontline weapons,’ and India should remember that no part of it is out of our range.”

Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif’s interview has come to light at a time when aggressive statements against Pakistan are continuously being made by India’s political and military circles. A few weeks ago, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced that “if Pakistan does not refrain from terrorism, India will once again carry out a surgical strike.” Following this statement, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also accused Pakistan of trying to fuel unrest in occupied Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself said in a recent speech that “we have taken revenge for Pulwama, and if anything happens again, the response will be even harsher.”

In the Indian media, speculations about “Operation Sindoor 2.0” are ongoing, which talk about possible military action in Pakistan-administered Azad Kashmir. At the same time, a systematic campaign to incite war frenzy and an anti-Pakistan atmosphere is also underway in the Indian media, about which experts are warning that this could be a prelude to a “false flag operation.”

It is worth noting that the Modi government is facing severe political pressure for the first time since 2014. The losses of Operation Sindoor, corruption scandals, severe economic difficulties after U.S. tariffs, and above all, disagreements with the RSS’s Bharatiya Janata Party have left the Narendra Modi government helpless. Analysts believe that: “Modi, at this time, wants to divert public attention by creating a narrative of an external enemy to save his declining credibility — and for this, the most effective target could be Pakistan.”

In these circumstances, giving an interview to a British magazine is not just a media strategy but an international message, which has several strategic aspects. The most important point is that an institution with global influence like “The Economist” is taken seriously by Western policymakers, investors, and strategic think tanks. Pakistan has conveyed through this platform that it not only has the full capability to defend its territory but will also respond to any potential Indian adventure with full military force. And this will not be a limited border skirmish.

Pakistan has also made it clear that if war is imposed, its effects will not remain limited to the subcontinent but will also impact the global economy and peace.
