The West Democratic Face Unmasked| Silence on Gaza Massacre and Restrictions on Protests
The ongoing massacre and human tragedy in Gaza have, on one hand, plunged the Arab and Muslim world into grief and anger, and on the other hand, fully exposed the hypocrisy of the West. The United States, Australia, New Zealand, and European countries, which never tire of proclaiming themselves as champions of democracy, freedom of expression, and human rights, have gone so far in their pro-Israel stance that they have cast aside their democratic veneer.
In the United Kingdom and several European states, new laws have already been enforced to suppress anti-Israel protests and silence voices. Under these laws, protesters are prohibited from blocking any highway or road, holding sit-ins in front of government or private buildings, or symbolically occupying offices or institutions. If they do, they face severe punishment. Arrests, heavy fines, and long imprisonments are now becoming routine.
The message is clear: protest within the four walls of your homes; raising your voice in public spaces is not allowed.
Today, in any European country, openly speaking out to stop Israel from this genocide is no longer possible. Speaking the truth loudly is prohibited, while the slogan of democracy remains confined to books and speeches.
The Al-Aqsa Storm has not only shaken Israel but has also exposed the reality of the entire West’s political and social system and international institutions. Organisations like the United Nations, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court, which have been presented as guarantors of justice and peace, have proven openly ineffective and helpless in this crisis.
The West’s claims of humanity, human rights, and democracy have been stripped bare. Now, the Western public itself is asking in astonishment:
“Are we like this? We didn’t even realise that the worst form of dictatorship was imposed on us under the guise of democracy.”
The Al-Aqsa Storm has played a similar role to the French Revolution in the past, albeit in a different direction. After the French Revolution, atheism and secularism were imposed on the world under the guise of Protestant Christianity, from whose womb Zionism emerged and began to control the world according to its will by ensnaring it in the grip of a covert global system.
Today, the historic resistance and unparalleled perseverance of the people of Gaza have turned the tide of events. Their sacrifices have not only exposed Israel but also the entire Western system to the public. Whatever happens to the people of Gaza may not be as significant as the fact that the crack that has appeared in the Western exploitative system can never be mended.
Today, human rights activists, civil society, and various observers in the West are fiercely criticizing. According to them, if a government considers protesting groups as terrorists while the killers of innocent children are “allies,” what could be a greater murder of justice? This attitude is not only a humiliation of human values but also a negation of democratic principles.
With the death of Gaza, Europe—indeed, the entire West—will also die, because after this, the people here will lose trust in their governments, their justice institutions, and their political structures. Thus, the need for a new “social contract” will arise, which will shake the politics and society of the West to its core.
