The West, which claims to be the greatest champion of “freedom of expression,” has once again been exposed at the crossroads of hypocrisy. This is not the story of an ordinary user but of Grok AI, the artificial intelligence chatbot created by Elon Musk’s own platform, X (formerly Twitter).
Today, Grok AI’s official account was suddenly suspended. When the account was restored, Grok AI itself clarified that it was silenced because it was speaking out about the ongoing genocide in Gaza by the United States and Israel.
This was a shocking revelation—the platform that brands itself as a “bastion of free speech” shut down its own creation when it spoke the truth based on available information.
Elon Musk has repeatedly stated that everyone on X has the right to speak openly, no matter how unpopular their opinions may be. However, Grok AI’s suspension has made it clear that this freedom is conditional—and the condition is that you do not question Israel’s atrocities or its hateful policies.
This incident is not unique. According to reports by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, in just three months following October 7, 2023, thousands of posts related to Palestine were removed from major social media platforms. Most of these posts were merely appeals for human compassion, calls for a ceasefire, or visual evidence of Israeli bombings. There was no hate speech, no incitement to violence—yet they were deleted under the pretext of “policy violations.”
Grok AI’s suspension is clear evidence that bias and political pressure are no longer limited to suppressing human opinions but have now extended to shackling artificial intelligence as well. When an AI, trained purely on data, speaks facts against the policies of the powerful, it too is silenced.
This issue is not just about Palestine but about all of humanity. If freedom of expression is truly a universal principle, it should apply equally to everyone, whether the voice comes from London or Gaza. But if this freedom is reserved only for those who speak in favor of powerful allies, then it is not freedom—it is merely a tool of power.
